Choosing PRUDENCE experiments for analyses

Some criteria for selecting PRUDENCE RCM experiments for impacts analyses could be the following:

  1. Bounding GCM vs. downscaled RCM
  2. Same bounding GCM/different RCMs (minimum)
  3. Same bounding GCM/different RCMs (remainder)
  4. Same RCM/different bounding GCMs
  5. Same RCM/different emission scenarions
  6. Same RCM/different ensemble members
  7. Same bounding GCM/different resolution RCMs
  8. Same RCM/different parameterizations
  9. Same GCM+RCM combination with comparable physics/different versions

From these criteria, some actual selections could be: The red set fulfilling criteria 1,2,4, and 5; The blue set fulfilling criteria 6,7,8, and 9, or The green set fulfilling criterion 3.

NOTE that some of these data sets (HC HadAM3H and HadRM3H) are restricted to project participants and should not be used in the future.

"1" indicates one experiment, "abc" are 3 ensemble members, parentheses indicate that no daily data are available. Colors refer to the sets above. The "+1"'s in the control column requires some explanation: For HIRHAM, RCAO, and REMO it refers to the ECHAM4 control run corresponding to the ECHAM4 scenarios; the second HIRHAM "+1" is a recent control with observed SSTs like the standard control experiment, but with ECHAM5 T106 as the driving atmospheric model; the latter corresponds to the red scenario "1" under the "ECHAM5" heading. Regarding scenarios: The HIRHAM red "+1" under the HadAM3H heading is the standard scenario (acdhd), but with SSTs from the SMHI coupled Baltic model. The REMO scenario black "1+" corresponds to the run where aerosols and greenhouse gases were kept at control levels. NOTE that I have put links for all symbols to the corresponding DODS page. The CNRM data in parentheses are only available as monthly, not daily, data sets; for explanation see the overview table.
